Lauro Mountain Walk

Start Point:
From Fuengirola and points east take the A7 towards Cordoba/Sevilla/Granada through the Churriana tunnel and then take the first exit (230) which takes you onto the A404. Follow the A404 for about 11 km and you will find the entrance to Lauro Golf club on the right hand, a discreet, low white pillar with “Lauro Golf” on it. If you overshoot that entrance there is a bigger one a couple of hundred metres further on. Drive into the car park. The GPS coordinates are N36 39.043 W4 37.835.We’ll meet in the bar in the clubhouse courtyard at 10.00.

Boot up in the car park. The walk starts from here at about 10.30. We follow the path around the 27th fairway and are soon on a gently rising mountain road. We swing off onto a stony track that leads east until we hit the mountain road that leads upwards through heavily wooded country. As the road rises, the views open and we see the Guadalhorce valley and Malaga below us. A steep uphill walk that takes us up to 652 metres above sea level brings us to an arboretum planted by pupils from local schools. This is our lunch stop. From here we follow the mountain road down past a disused silver or lead mine back to our starting point. Don’t forget to let me know if you are coming. I have room for three passengers leaving from Los Boliches at 09.15. Contact: 687 642 775 turlough.johnston@telefonica.net
