Meet in the centre of Istán at the little bar/coffee place called LA CUEVA DE CHABELI at 10.30.It´s just around the corner from the bar/rest TROYANO where we have met earlier, which is on the church square in Istán. After the walk both places offer food and tapas. At LA CUEVA DE CHABELI coffee is 1 € and they have a menu del día for 9€. Take the A7 towards Marbella and just after Marbella (on the A7, NOT the AP7) take exit 1048, first exit after the tunnel, and follow the A7176 (ISTAN) for 13 kms into the hills. As you arrive in the village, just after the first curve, keep right, up a very short slope, signposted PLAZA DEL CALVARIO. Immediately after turn left and you will arrive at a parking place. Park here, boot up and continue walking into the village center (a few minutes walk). As you enter the center, take first right and you will find yourself at the village church square (Plaza de la Iglesia). The TROYANO is at the RHS of the plaza (it will be closed when we arrive) and the CUEVA DE CHABELI is just around the corner, 25 meters down the little side street. It´s a cave so, from the street, you will only see the entrance. | ||||

| We did this walk 2 years ago. Since then we have some new members who would enjoy the walk. It´s a circular walk. If there is an interest, and before we set out, we will walk up to the mirador, from where we get the best view of the whole reservoir LA CONCEPCIÓN, an almost Fjord-like landscape. From here we start our walk down to the lake. This part is quite steep at times, and the track is now, after the rains, covered in stones, some of them loose. Sticks are a definite help. Once down by the water we continue for a while on a small (and very narrow) path, at some places a bit overgrown, (due to lack of walkers) alongside the reservoir, all the time enjoying spectacular views both of the lake and the surrounding mountains. From there we turn uphill until we reach the chapel of San Miguel,a perfect place for our snack/lunch. The return to the village is done from the other side of the village, through the mountains, on a broader path but with equally pleasant views. Please let me know who will join!
